The enduring quality lifted from the pages of this book,
Life is a journey. The ebb and flow of highs and lows of the journey make up the story of one’s life. Dr. Daryl Petree, in How I Survived The Darkest Moments Of My Life, openly shares his journey of the extremes of life and ministry. Through loss of family, hardships in ministry, and PTSD due to severe abuse, Dr. Petree can truly sing the wonderful words, “Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come; ‘Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home.” The enduring quality lifted from the pages of this book, is the pastoral heart utilized by the author to share principles from God’s Word to encourage the reader to continue in their own journey of discovering purpose and moving from brokenness to healing.
A Unique View On The World
Going through difficult times is a fact of human life, but people who successfully navigate the tumultuous seasons do so by finding a way forward. Feeling overwhelmed by hopelessness will lead to perpetually being stuck in adversity.
This is why Daryl’s book is so important – it gives hope to the hopeless and power to the weary. As you read his story you will find strength for your own journey. The same grace that helped him is also available for you!
Daryl Petree’s story should encourage those who are facing their furnace in life to believe the incredible, receive the impossible and exit the furnace of life walking by faith and not by sight!
A camp meeting spirit filled the air in Kentucky that day when I saw and heard Daryl Petree for the first time as he was on the stage of the Church of God state camp meeting. His appearance was of an evangelist who had it all together, and as one who was in demand as a speaker in pulpits all across the country. That day the Holy Spirit spoke into my heart these words: “Come alongside him, he is going to need you.” I briefly introduced myself, gave him a card, and asked him to speak at the church where I served as pastor and from there developed friendship.
Little did I know that day of the depth of despair he would plummet into. Survival was a daily task and each day required a miracle. Days of despair were overwhelming, but there was always a radiance of hope in the Lord. Trauma and tragedy require a faith system that finds God’s presence in the midst of the fire and pain in life. Daryl Petree’s story should encourage those who are facing their furnace in life to believe the incredible, receive the impossible and exit the furnace of life walking by faith and not by sight!
